Shout Outs

My mom has a great townhouse at Inlet Beach, Florida that is now available to rent throughout the year. It's located in between Panama City and Destin in a quiet part of the Florida panhandle. It's a beautiful spot, with uncrowded beaches, good fishing, and many attractions and restaurants nearby.

If you love Ireland and especially, Donegal, you should check out my tribute to The Hilltown, our home away from home.

If you love volleyball as much as I do, then you should check out the home page of Villages Volleyball, the greatest thing to happen to Wednesday since it was named "Hump Day".

Check out kayakfishingstuff.com for everything you need to know about kayak fishing.

Liz and I are participating in a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) this year. Castlemaine farm is less than 5 miles from us, and so far, everything has been awesome!

If you love seafood and you are near Chapel Hill, you should definitely try Squid's. Their hush puppies are awesome.

If you love disc golf and you love UNC, then you definitely need to check out the Carolina Disc Golf Club!

2008 Extreme Croquet Season starts off with a Battle! (06/03/2008)
Well, it's here! The long-awaited 2008 Extreme Croquet season. And the first event of the Tour was, once again, the Memorial Day bash. Nasty, using proceeds from previous year winnings, chartered a private flight down from NC. After attempting to bash his way through the security area with "Mjolnir", he reluctantly surrendered his cherished mallet to the authorities and was forced to play the tournament using second hand equipment. Nevertheless, he managed to eek out a win, if only by 1 point! The Professor, fresh off a two month sabbatical in Thailand to study the ancient Thai Croquet method, was on his game. He took Day 1 with ease, but did not fair as well on Day 2, losing the lead to Nasty in the process.

Also of note: The Sissy, perhaps in his last extreme croquet event (if only for a while), managed to secure a second place finish, though he'd be quick to point out that he should have gotten first. Dirty Harry had, perhaps, his worst tournament outing ever, disappointing his many fans after what was a great 2007 campaign. His poor start to the season may indicate that his first place finish in 2007 was due to the lack of participation of other key players (Nasty), but the season is still young and there is still time to earn more points. Finally, Memorial Day marked the inauspicious debut of Mark the neighbor. He was so bad at croquet, that he never managed to make it to the final series of holes, and , had the game on long enough, his son would have beaten him!

Pond and native perennial garden done! (04/12/2008)
Read all about it in my snowcamp aquaponics blog! The only thing left is to add the 25 tilapia, which I will pick up the first week of May.

Update (05/13/2008): We still don't have the tilapia!! Apparently, the place where we are getting the tilapia (Foster Lake and Pond Managment still don't have theirs yet. Cooler than normal weather is to blame. Two questions remain: 1) How long can our plants hold out without very much fish waste to feed on? and 2) Will we get the tilapia with enough time to fatten them up for dinner, given the later than predicted start?

Dirty Harry Wins 2007 Extreme Croquet Season (01/02/2008)
Well, it was another great season of extreme croquet in Roswell, GA! This year, Dirty Harry capitalized on some scheduling conflicts that prevented Nasty from participating in several tournament matches to take home the Golden trophy for the first time since record keeping began! Congratulations go out to Dirty Harry on a great season! Check out the 2007 Final Standings

The Christmas tournament was fun as usual, and was blessed with great weather. Though there was rain, it fell on non-tournament days, and actually helped soften up the course. But, with the exceptional amount of use, once again the grass proved too weak to handle several days of tournament play, and by the end of the tournament, several holes had to be removed on the hilly side due to ridiculous rolls down the hill. That made for quicker course play and more games, so it was a good compromise. The Thanksgiving and Christmas tournaments featured the extreme croquet plastic mallet heads for everyone except Nasty, who swears by his squared-off wooden mallet, Mjolnir.

Looking forward to 2008!!!
